Day 4 Happenings

Maverick is now off the phototheraphy and has been bumped up to 6 ml of milk every 3 hours. He has his first feeding of the larger amount at 11:00 and when they fed him at 2:00 he had digested everything but .5 ml which is really good. Hopefully he will continue taking the larger feeding well but it is really day to day. We are learning with preemies his size it can definitely be a 2 steps forward 1 step back kind of deal but he is doing really well so far. At the last feeding the nurse dripped milk onto his binky while I held it and he loved it. Really was doing well at sucking and swallowing. Great practice little man!

Elliott has been bumped up in feedings as well. I believe she was up to 12 ml every 3 hours this morning and it continues to move up. We tried nursing twice today and she did it both times (she gets her food thru the feeding tube and any she gets from nursing is just extra). She is still on phototheraphy and will probably continue to be for the next day or two.

The neonatologist comes around every morning to check on the babies, making their rounds from 7:00am-9:00am. I was in there this morning early and asked if they had been by yet and Deb (nurse) explained that they always see the sick babies first and hadn't been by to see ours yet. We were usually last which is really great (per Deb). That made me happy to hear. Maverick may be small but he's a trooper!

Enjoying our time with them especially since we are becoming more and more comfortable handling them. I get discharged tomorrow and know it will be hard for me to leave them here. I know they are in great hands which helps considerably. I look forward to being with Baron more too. I know it will all work out but we are going to be busy for awhile!
